Alberto is from Valencia, Spain and obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (DDS) as well as a Masters in Comparative Literature from the University of Valencia. In addition, he holds a Master of Science from the University of Minnesota, where he also completed a 2-year residency program and one year of research fellowship in orofacial pain and sleep medicine, under the supervision of Dr. Nixdorf and Dr. Moana-Filho. Following this path, Alberto was then involved in various projects relating to non-invasive brain stimulation and sleep disorders in orofacial pain populations at Université de Montréal with Gilles Lavigne and Louis De Beaumont. Afterwards, he joined the Department of Experimental Medicine at McGill University to begin his Ph.D. with Marc O Martel and Gilles Lavigne, where he is working on transcranial magnetic stimulation to manage pain and opioid problematic outcomes in participants with temporomandibular disorders (TMD). In addition, Alberto is collaborating with different orofacial pain experts in the United States, Brazil, Denmark and Japan, to improve orofacial pain and sleep dental medicine education among dentists.
