Título

Results of digital treatment of cognitive behavioral therapy in patients with chronic insomnia at a referral hospital in Curitiba.

Introdução

Insomnia is the difficulty in initiating sleep, maintaining it during the night or waking up before the desired time. It is considered the most prevalent sleep disorder in the world population.
Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, CBT-i is considered today as the best treatment for insomnia. However, this treatment is still not widely available to the population, either because of insufficient training in this area of professionals, or because of the costs.

Objetivo

To evaluate the adherence of patients with chronic insomnia as well as the improvement of the subjective parameters of sleep quality of these patients after digital treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy.

Métodos

Prospective study with 39 patients at the IPO hospital with chronic insomnia. These patients were assigned to a non-drug treatment of cognitive behavioral therapy, in a digital way in which the individual is monitored daily by an artificial intelligence algorithm, with questions and guidance, from the “Sleep Watcher” program, provided free of charge to participants. The intervention lasted seven (7) weeks and included the application of two subjective questionnaires (internationally validated), called the Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index – PSQI and the Sleep Severity Index - IGI.

Resultados

Of the 39 patients, more than half, 56.4% adhered to this proposed treatment and improved their sleep parameters. The total sleep time of these patients increased, as did the sleep efficiency. There was a decrease in sleep onset latency in this group.

Conclusões

The treatment modality offered by Sleep Watchers through CBT-i (gold standard) was positively evaluated by most participants in this study, improving the parameters of PSQI, IGI, sleep time, sleep onset latency and sleep efficiency after 7 weeks of treatment. It seems to be a viable alternative to the face-to-face model and prescriptions for sleeping pills.
