Título

SLEEP HUNGRY: THE INFLUENCE OF POOR SLEEP QUALITY ON EATING HABITS

Introdução

During the year 2019/2020, a set of actions to be carried out for the entire academic community of a Federal Public Educational Institution was proposed. We expanded the information about health actions, sleep quality, about the characteristics of the sleep cycle, as well as the possible behavioral actions arising from chronic sleep deprivation and its irregularity, and added the topic of food. Although there are many variables involved in the relationship between sleep and food, it is pertinent to understand that sleep deficiency affects cognition and, consequently, academic performance. Among the consequences of cognitive functioning, we can highlight the loss of memory, reasoning, executive functions, psychomotor functions, visual perception, and especially possible eating disorders.

Objetivo

To demonstrate and develop with the academic community actions and knowledge about how poor sleep quality can influence the eating habits of individuals.

Métodos

The project was designed to be developed in five moments during the year. Characterization / identification of students both by course and by those attended by UFPI social benefits;
Dissemination of the calendar of activities: educational lectures / informative chat / educational films / health in focus / discussion circle on health / guidance on sleep hygiene booklet.
Development of informative lectures according to the chosen theme, developed in the auditorium and/or in the social space;
Confection and dissemination of leaflets about food, health and sleep, according to the reality of the students of the Picos campus;
A debriefing through an exhibition (photos / informative posters) in a general culmination of the activities, to be defined according to the closure and what was noticed during the execution of the activities.

Resultados

As results, we had an adhesion of 100% (one hundred percent), that is, all students from the courses of: Nursing, Pedagogy, Medicine, Nutrition, Biology, History, Mathematics and Letters, a total of 80 (eighty), of both sexes, who are assisted by the NAE - Assistance Center participated in the activities. To optimize the work, they were divided into focal groups of 10 (ten) students in the opposite shift of their classes, so that they could discuss the following points: general study routine associated with sleep and eating habits, physical activity, consumption of stimulants in general (nicotine, alcohol and caffeine), body mass index and other important points that were found and agreed upon during each group's explanation. A general lecture was presented with the theme: "Hungry for Sleep" and also about Sleep Hygiene as the main and permanent activity during the execution of the project. Finally, with the execution team, each group built a final booklet about Food and Health, an interactive website and podcasts so that they could reach and encourage more people to have a good quality of life.

Conclusões

However, we can infer that, from the moment students participate directly in the projects, a mutual relationship of learning and mainly social transformation occurs, which can move the entire academic and social community.
