MINICOURSE ON MENTAL HEALTH, SLEEP AND EATING: EXPERIENCE REPORT

Introdução

The high incidence of sleep disorders, especially its chronic deprivation and irregularity, and poor diet generate serious consequences for human beings, especially in their academic life and mental health. This is remarkable for students and also for the general population, who consequently end up with the worst academic performance and autonomic and emotional dysfunctions.

Objetivo

To promote interactive strategies of active methodologies applicable to health work, addressing current concepts about mental health, sleep and nutrition.

Métodos

The techniques of active methodologies were used in the work, developed through virtual and interactive chat, audiovisual resources, gamefication technique, discussions and application of protocols, all applied and corrected in an on line way, to check the general health and sleep status.

Resultados

The minicourse took place in November 2020, during the scientific event of a higher education institution. Techniques were presented in order to motivate the participants to develop strategies for small group work, through dynamic exhibitions and experiences related to daily life. This way, the participants' interest in the theme was stimulated, as well as their active participation. The most common reports were: insomnia, variability in sleep schedule, and excessive daytime sleepiness. The themes of mental health, sleep and nutrition were worked through presentations and protocol updates, applied and corrected in real time, aiming to identify possible disturbances, correct repeated behaviors that disrupt the day to day and improve the quality of life of the participants.

Conclusões

At the end of the minicourse the participants were able to acquire competencies, skills, and improve their quality of life. Therefore, it is worth emphasizing the need to study and expand health actions on nutrition, sleep quality, and mental health, as a contribution in the form of an objective measure for the population's psychophysiological performance and consequently ensures a replication of techniques and exercises learned during the minicourse.
