Título

EDUCATION IS ART. HEALTH IS SLEEP!

Introdução

Sleep is a biological activity that is indispensable for the repair of metabolic and brain functions and memory consolidation. However, the period in which individuals dedicate themselves to activities such as studying for the vestibular may become extremely stressful, due to factors such as postural deviations, psychological pressure, social and family demands, and sequential hours of intense concentration, which may generate sleep disorders. Thus, there is a need to address aspects such as the quality of sleep and its relation to study for this public, and to elucidate factors that may improve the biological and circadian cycle of students, and consequently their mood and learning.

Objetivo

To report the experience of academics on addressing sleep health to students in a popular pre-vestibular course.

Métodos

This is a descriptive study of experience report type. The action was developed in November 2019, by the university extension group "Education is Art. Health is Sleep!" of an institution of higher education, to the public of students of the popular pre-vestibular course of the institution, which has young adults who aim to enter university. The action was previously scheduled in the university auditorium and carried out with an expository approach on the factors related to sleep health and learning performance, opening space for questions to be answered at the end.

Resultados

Participated in the activity, about 50 students, diversified between young and adult, male and female. They showed interest in the subject and reported problems generated after entering the study journey, such as insomnia, nocturnal polyphagia, frequent headache and daytime sleepiness. Most stated that they do not respect established study schedules and, therefore, a disjointed routine. Moreover, after learning about these influences, they were in favor of adopting a new routine due to the benefits for quality of life and performance in studies.

Conclusões

The action allowed the participants to observe the interference of sleep health as a determining factor of study productivity, along with how the disorders generated by poor quality sleep influence low performance and productivity. For the students, it was possible to work pedagogical skills by demonstrating interactive explanations and removing doubts, thus evolving the teaching-learning competencies related to this subject.
