Título
Efficacy of a Brief Behavioral Intervention for Sleepwalking (BBIS): case report.
Introdução
Introduction:
Sleepwalking is a disorder of arousal; in children it is mainly associated with central nervous system immaturity; although it may arise due to predisposing and precipitating factors; such as changes in N3 sleep stage, stressful situations and sleep deprivation respectively.
Objetivo
his report describes a case of a 10 years old male patient who suffered up to 20 Sleepwalking Episodes (SwE) per week. Sleep psychologist applied to the patient a sleep diariy weekly and a sleep disorder scale for school children to identify the baseline and changes in sleep quality and SwE episodes frequency.
Métodos
TA Brief Behavioral Intervention for Sleepwalking (BBIS) was implemented that included 1) stimulus control, 2) sleep restriction and 3) psychoeducation. The intervention was structured as 5 weekly sessions (50 minutes each), and 2 follow-up sessions at 3 and 6 months respectively. All sessions were carried out as tele-psychology.
Resultados
At baseline, a mean of 20 SwE was observed weekly, mean sleep latency was 15 minutes and sleep quality was rated as 2/10; after the intervention, a decrease in SwE (0 / week) and in Sleep Latency (0 min); as well as an increase in CS (8/10) were observed. Finally, the modification in bedtime did not modify sleep efficiency and total sleep time, which remained at 92% and 7 hours respectively.
Conclusões
Discussion: It is concluded that BBIS can be a viable alternative treatment for arousal disorders in pediatric patients; even in tele-psychology option.Sleepwalking, Parasomnia, Arousal Disorder, Brief Behavioral Intervention.
