Título

ASSESSMENT OF SLEEP QUALITY AND ASSOCIATED FACTORS IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION STUDENTS DURING THE REMOTE MODEL

Introdução

With the COVID-19 pandemic, sleep disorders were intensified and during the period of quarantine, there was a drop in the physical and mental well-being of human beings, and this condition is related to the decrease in sleep quality, causing capacity of impaired health restoration, resulting from the presence of some pre-installed disease, demanding a greater amount in the hours of sleep. Therefore, it is important to investigate whether in fact the sleep quality of Physical Education students at a Public University in the Northern Region of Brazil is reduced due to the inclusion of remote classes.

Objetivo

to evaluate the sleep quality of Physical Education students during the remote model

Métodos

Cross-sectional study with non-probabilistic sampling. Participants were asked to respond to the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, validated for use in Brazil. This project was approved by the Ethics and Research Committee through opinion No. 5,117,581. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences software.

Resultados

Of the 68 students studied, it was found that 50 (73.5%) had poor sleep quality/sleep disorders, 24 (35.3%) were male and 26 (38.2%) were male, with no significant difference between groups. As for the average age of the two groups, in the group with good sleep quality it was 25.5 (±6.58) years, and with poor sleep quality/sleep disorders it was 24.78 (±5.89) years. Regarding the number of children in the studied sample, 41 (82.0%) of those who did not have children had poor sleep quality/sleep disorders, with a significant difference between the two groups (p=0.02). It is observed that 22 (44.0%) of the students participating in the third year of the course had poor sleep quality/sleep disorders. It is worth highlighting an important data regarding fourth year students, in which 9 (50.0%) demonstrated good sleep quality.

Conclusões

Students seem to be more exposed to poor sleep quality/sleep disorder, with those in the 5th and 6th period being the most affected and presenting a worse perception of sleep quality. Non-pharmacological interventions should be implemented to improve the sleep hygiene of these students.
