Título

Sleep duration during workdays in fixed shif workers: a cross-sectional study carried out in the cross-sectional study carried out in central western Brazil

Introdução

Evidence from the scientific literature has shown that shift work, especially atypical schedules, has been recognized as individuals who are known to be predisposed to present sleep disorders. However, studies analyzing this association in fixed shift workers are in fact scarce in the literature.

Objetivo

To characterize and compare the sleep patterns in the activity-rest cycle of workers in fixed shifts.

Métodos

A cross-sectional study was conducted with three fixed shift workers from a mining company under real life conditions. Individuals were evaluated over six days in a shift schedule carried out as follow: A – 08:00 to 16:00, B – 16:00 to 00:00 and C – 00:00 to 08:00), using a smartwatch ez-rest as an actigraphy.

Resultados

This study included 37 participants. During workdays, the workers in shift A (M = 07:09, SD = 00:46, p = 0.018) had longer sleep time when compared to shift B (M=05:49, SD = 01:16).

Conclusões

The results demonstrate the need to develop actions aimed at a better sleep pattern in these individuals in all work shifts.
