CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY OF SOCIODEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION STUDENTS WITH INSOMNIA DURING REMOTE EDUCATION

Introdução

The pandemic hit many countries in 2020, including Brazil, which joined numerous measures to combat the spread of the virus, interfering with the life of society, with the requirement of social isolation and that the recommendation "stay at home" adopted to stop the spread of COVID -19 affected higher education, bringing to university students significant changes, from an economic point of view, in the physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, environmental, political aspects and negative effects on the quality and quantity of sleep and, consequently, the installation of sleep disorders. sleep, especially insomnia. The interest in the subject arises as a result of the real situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, justified by the teaching model adopted at Public Universities, leading students to remain more exposed to the use of technologies, in addition to affecting the organization of personal life and changes in routines. daily life, not only of this group, but of the entire academic and family community, which can negatively affect their health and consequently generate losses in academic training, being an emerging, incipient issue and still little investigated in Licentiate Courses in Northern Brazil.

Objetivo

To estimate the prevalence of insomnia in Physical Education students during remote teaching.

Métodos

Cross-sectional study with students of the Degree in Physical Education at a public university through non-probabilistic sampling. The instrument used to measure insomnia was the Insomnia Severity Index, validated for use in Brazil. The project was approved by the Ethics and Research Committee through opinion no. 5,117,581. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences software.

Resultados

Sixty-eight students participated in the study, 55.9% (n=38) were female and 40.1% (n=30) were male. Of these, it was found that 51.5% (n=35) have insomnia and 48.5% (n=33) without insomnia. The degree of insomnia severity according to the gender variable was more prevalent in females, with emphasis on 42.1% (n=16) for mild absence and 18.4% (n=7) for moderate insomnia.

Conclusões

The prevalence of insomnia in Physical Education Course students was high, being more frequent and more severe in female students. Thus, it is important in the educational field to assess sleep disorders with strategies to promote and prevent sleep-related changes in university students.
