Relationship between physical and ventilatory capacity with subjective sleep sensation in patients with Chagas disease
Introdução
Chagas disease is a pathology of epidemiological importance in Brazil and can be associated with cardiac and digestive involvement. The cardiac dysfunction of the disease, characterized by cardiac remodeling, is related to the loss of physical and ventilatory capacity and sleep-disordered breathing, causing damage to the restorative function of sleep.
Objetivo
In view of the commitments mentioned, we aimed to correlate physical and ventilatory capacity with changes in the subjective sensation of sleep in these patients
Métodos
Subjective sleep assessment with the Pittsburgh scale and functional physical capacity assessment with Cardiopulmonary Test (gold standard) and 6-Minute Walk Test were performed. The ethical aspects of the study were evaluated and approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the State University of Rio Grande do Norte, with CAAE 53362316.8.0000.5294Results: There was a significant correlation of the values of Pittsburgh scale with the percentage of VO2max (p=0.009; r -0.342), Ventilatory Equivalent for CO2 (p=0.041; r= -0.272), Respiratory Quotient (p=0.021; r= -305) and distance covered in the 6-Minute Walk Test (p=0.029; r = -289)
Resultados
There was a significant correlation of the values of Pittsburgh scale with the percentage of VO2max (p=0.009; r -0.342), Ventilatory Equivalent for CO2 (p=0.041; r= -0.272), Respiratory Quotient (p=0.021; r= -305) and distance covered in the 6-Minute Walk Test (p=0.029; r = -289).
Conclusões
The worse physical and ventilatory capacity of the patients during the stress tests were related to a worse subjective sleep sensation in patients with Chagas disease, so that these tests can infer sleep alterations in these patients.
