Título

Evaluation of phenotypes associated with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome in patients undergoing polysonography in the municipality of Divinopolis - MG

Introdução

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) is a common sleep disorder identified by reduced or absent airflow by partial (hypopnea) or total (apnea) airway obstruction during sleep, upper airway collapsibility and muscle compensation. There is value in characterizing individual subtypes within a disease to identify targeted therapeutic approaches to improve patient outcomes.

Objetivo

To evaluate the relationship between phenotypes and scores related to sleep quality on polysomnography in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.

Métodos

Cross-sectional study with 195 patients from a private clinic specialized in sleep study in Divinópolis, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Data were collected from January 2018 to June 2019 with sociodemographic characterization, physical examination, polysomnography examination and application of the NOSE and Epworth questionnaires. Data are under analysis through the SPSS program. All ethical and legal aspects contemplated in resolution 466/2012 were followed, and the project was submitted to the Ethics Committee on Research on Human Beings of the Federal University of São João del Rei (CEPES / CCO) and approved under CAAE number 54851616000005545.

Resultados

Seventy-two percent of patients had body mass index (BMI) between normal and overweight. The average Epworth scale was 8.7 and the NOSE scale 28 points. Fifty-eight percent with Mallampatti grade 3 and 4 and seventy-two percent with grade zero tonsils. The average apnea and hypopnea index (AIH) was 32 / hour and the average saturation time below 90% was 39 minutes. There was a statistically significant difference in AIH with BMI, the first being statistically higher in the groups with BMI of grade I and II obese. There was no correlation between increased tonsils or Mallampatti grade with increased AIH.

Conclusões

Statistical analyzes have not yet been finalized. The correlation between the severity of OSAS through the Apnea and hypopnea index, the saturation time below 90% and the physical examination variables and questionnaires is sought to characterize phenotypes related to the higher severity of OSAS. individualize the patient's treatment.
